Description

EA827 1.8-liter engine of the family Volkswagen was presented to the world in 1983. From junior 1.6 liter engine that differs by increased stroke. The bottom of the engine is cast iron block. The cylinder head has three options - 8, 16 and 20 valves. 20-valve head was produced with variable valve timing on the intake and in the version with the turbine. Hydraulic lifters are installed on engines of VW of this type and adjustment of valves is not required. Camshafts drive by the rubber belt. The belt replacement interval is about 40,000 miles. At belt breakage, 8 valve engines could bend valves. On 16V and 20V motors valves will bend, be sure.

The turbo engine - 1.8T was created on the basis of this engine in 1994, which is widely used in cars Audi, Skoda, Seat and Volkswagen.

Warning! Ventilation system of crankcase gases often becomes clogged and requires cleaning. Often viscous coupling of fan and pump breaks down. Summarizing, it should be noted that, in general, the engine is not bad and with good service, it will work properly for a long time. But its time has passed and now is time to look at modern engines.
